Introducing Stremtech!

As of today, Johannas Stadsodlingar evolves into Stremtech. Our vast experience in sustainable food production, with world-class research and new patent (pending), has laid the foundation to STREM. This new sludge management for recirculating fish farms will close the nutrient loop in fish farming. This means that existing land-based fish farms will be able to adjust to new strict EU-regulations. We will also continue to produce and sell our premium vegetables under the Johannas® brand.

Closing the nutrient loop in fish farming

To meet the needs of both people and planet, we must rethink how we produce food. Sustainable food production isn’t just a goal—it’s essential. We need to grow food in ways that sustain our environment, and to achieve that, new and better technology is required. Equally, we need resilient companies that can manage this transition toward sustainable solutions.

This is what drives our work. Today we take our next step to achieve this change. Say hello to Stremtech AB.

What does this mean?

Stremtech is not just a new name. It signals a shift in our focus to a critical area within sustainable food systems: the management of sludge from recirculating fish farms.

Our new sludge management system, STREM (Solids Treatment and Remineralisation), will be developed at our pilot facility north of Stockholm. This technology is designed specifically to help recirculating fish farms process waste responsibly and efficiently. These farms face tough new emission requirements from the European Union. STREM will be marketed to these recirculating fish farms.

What about Johannas?

In recent years, we have developed advanced systems for sustainable food production under the name Johannas Stadsodlingar. We are extremely proud of the quality of our pilot production facility in Vallentuna north of Stockholm. We produce Sweden’s best vegetables – and will continue to do so. Under the Johannas® brand, we will deliver premium vegetables to several top restaurants. The vegetables can be enjoyed at top end restaurants in Stockholm; for instance, at Clarion Stockholm, Clarion Sign, Radisson Waterfront, The Winery Hotel and Lisa Elmqvist in Östermalms Saluhall.

What does this mean for the planned facility in Morgongåva?

Unfortunately, we have had to put the expansion to a full-scale facility for Johannas on hold. This means that we have ended the collaboration with Morgongåva Företagspark for an expansion in their premises. We will complete the project Integrated circular, climate-resistant and highly sustainable food production system, in our pilot plant in Vallentuna on a smaller scale.

Why the change?

By focusing on sludge management, we can address an urgent issue for fish farms facing stricter EU environmental regulations, making it easier for them to meet these new requirements. We are happy to announce that despite challenging investment conditions within the primary food production sector, Stremtech AB has received a 5 MSEK EU supported EIP grant from The Swedish Board of Agriculture to develop a sludge handling product.

Realizing the potential in Food Tech

Our work with Johannas® has given us profound insights in the high demands from both the planet and the market. By staying at the forefront of research and testing our methods in our pilot facility, we can develop solutions that work and actually make a difference. Through our work with fully integrated food production systems we have an opportunity to take advantage of our underlying patent pending technology. With our new direction, we aim to support more sustainable food production and expand our positive environmental impact.

Thanks for your support!
A big thank you to all our supporters out there. What we have achieved wouldn’t have been possible without you. Now this journey continues with Stremtech. Please get in touch if you have questions or suggestions.
